Example simulation

Bicycle assembly line simulation example.

A mixed-model line with racing bikes, e-bikes, BMX bikes, and mountain bikes sharing workstations, operators, and buffers.

Product mix

Four bike variants with different work content: racing, e-bike, BMX, and mountain bike.

Line shape

Four main workstations, buffers between stations, and a pack station at the end of the line.

What to test

Whether different variants overload different stations and how buffers behave as the queue changes.

Why this example is useful

Bicycle assembly is a good mixed-model example because different product families can share many common processes while still creating very different workload patterns. An e-bike may load one station heavily, while a BMX or racing bike may behave differently.

Use this template to explore product mix, station balance, queue sequence, and whether work should be moved between workstations before committing to a physical layout.
